American Bar Association Journal Article on Virtual Worlds

I am pleased to announce that the American Bar Association Journal’s October 2008 issue contains an article about virtual worlds. The issue should be arriving in people’s mailboxes soon. I am one of the attorneys quoted in the article. The article talks about:
- legal issues in virtual worlds
- the eventual use of dispute resolution in virtual worlds
- the SL Bar Association
- Ben Duranske’s Virtual Law book
- the Virtual Worlds and Multiuser Online Games Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Science and Technology Law
- The American Bar Association Annual Meeting seminar on virtual worlds in New York this past summer.
In general, attorneys will need to recognize and deal with the inevitable transformation of the Internet from a two-dimensional environment to a three-dimensional environment. And clients will need the help of 3D Internet-savvy lawyers in handling the legal issues that will flow from this transformation.
I hope that the SL Bar Association’s education and outreach efforts will continue to raise the level of awareness of the upcoming legal challenges of the 3D Internet. In any case, because the ABA Journal is the ABA’s flagship publication and reaches about half a million lawyers in the ABA, I believe the article will bring attention to virtual worlds within the mainstream bar.
